ACDCA Junior Achievement Award Program

The purpose of the ACDCA Junior Achievement Award Program is to encourage junior members to become actively involved in showing Australian Cattle Dogs.
Goals:
• Foster youth participation in our breed and sport.
• Teach ethics in animal care, handling, and breeding practices.
• Instill Good Sportsmanship.
• Generate pride in accomplishments earned competing with Australian Cattle Dogs.
Guidelines:
• Points will be calculated from January 1st to December 31st of each calendar year.
• A separate “application” (Junior’s name, their dog’s AKC registered name, AKC number or ILP number, current owner(s) as listed with AKC) is required for each junior handler/dog “team” and points will be tallied and follow the “team”, points will not be combined for one junior with multiple dogs. There is no limit on the number of applications a junior may turn in during an award year. Send to Kim Broster by email at broster@wk.net or regular mail 4380 Airport Rd, Murray, KY 42071. Confirmation will be sent once “application” is received and points will count from that date forward.
• The Junior must be a current ACDCA member, nine years of age (birthday) through 18 years of age (birthday). (Any ACDCA junior member may turn in an application at any time during the calendar year, but points for this “team” will only be calculated from the “application” received date, forward. No points will be awarded prior to ACDCA membership or receipt of “application” by the Juniors Committee for each year.)
• Points earned by Junior Members will be published quarterly on the ACDCA website (www.acdca.org) and in the “Quarterly” publication.
• Junior Members must handle their dog through the entire event for the points to count.
• Eligible dogs can be AKC registered or ILP Registered Australian Cattle Dogs and must be owned or co-owned by the junior member and/or one of their immediate family members (father, mother, brother, sister, grandparent or guardian).
• Certificates of Excellence will be awarded for each AKC title, including conformation champion, earned by a junior. All qualifying scores/championship points for that title must be earned by the junior alone. Junior Showmanship Certificates will be awarded after earning 100 points per year.
• The Conformation Junior Achievement Award will be decided by the highest total points earned from the Junior Showmanship classes and the breed ring classes combined.
• The Performance Junior Achievement Award will be decided by the highest total points earned from all performance classes combined.
• Junior Achievement Awards will be presented at the Annual Awards Banquet held in conjunction with the National Specialty.
• The Top Junior in each event, if applicable, will be recognized annually. (Conformation, Junior Showmanship, Herding, Obedience, Rally, Agility, and Tracking)

• Juniors are responsible for mailing a copy of their Junior Handler Certification Forms** and a copy of title certificates earned to the Juniors Committee for point tabulation within 30 days of the class (except copy of AKC title, which can be sent in a timely manner after receipt). Mail to: Kim Broster 4380 Airport Rd, Murray, KY 42071. Confirmation will be sent upon receipt by email or regular mail.

** Junior Handler Certification Forms should be filled out and signed by the judge of the class at the show. These forms must be used for all performance events and conformation classes. (For conformation classes, please write conformation in on the form as an event and make a box next to it and check the box, then have the judge fill out and sign.) In the event a non-qualifying score is received in a performance class, or for participating in conformation, to be awarded participation points, you must have the judge sign anyway (explain that this is a requirement for your parent club’s Juniors Program), you keep both copies from show and mail the yellow copy to Juniors Committee as listed above.

For the Junior Showmanship Class you may write Junior Showmanship on the form and make the box and check it and have the judge fill it out and sign, as above, or you may print out and mail a copy of the show results from the Superintendent’s site or the AKC site, so the results will indicate whether the entry was in the class or absent, and what placement was received. A copy of the published results is only valid for the Junior Showmanship Class.
